New Mercedes-Benz GLA to Debut July 29, Electric Version to Replace EQA

Stuttgart, Germany – The Mercedes-Benz GLA is set to receive its third generation with an official debut scheduled for July 29. The new compact SUV will continue its competition against segment mainstays such as the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.

The digital reveal event will commence at 1:30 PM Eastern Time on July 29, which corresponds to 01:30 AM CET on July 30. This event will lift the camouflage from extensively tested prototypes that have been seen in recent months.

The new GLA is expected to be available in both internal combustion engine and fully electric configurations. The electric variant is slated to replace the current EQA, aligning with Mercedes-Benz' strategy to unify design language across different powertrains. Prototypes of mild-hybrid and fully electric versions have been spotted during testing.

Design elements are anticipated to incorporate Mercedes-Benz' signature three-pointed star motif in the lighting units. The vehicle's dimensions are projected to increase slightly, maintaining its characteristic raised hatchback profile. Features like flush door handles may be included to improve aerodynamic efficiency and extend the electric version's range.

Inside, the new GLA is expected to adopt a cockpit layout similar to the seven-seat GLB, featuring a triple-screen setup. This likely includes a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and two 14-inch touchscreens for infotainment and passenger entertainment. A panoramic glass roof with illuminated star patterns is also a potential option.

The GLA will not be offered as a seven-seater; that role remains with the GLB. Combustion engine variants will be available with front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Mild-hybrid models are expected to utilize a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, while the electric variants will offer rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options.
