New Mural Art Added to Breiðholt, Reykjavik
Reykjavik's Breiðholt district has a new large mural, initiated by the residents' association and the community college's art department. The project aims to deter illegal graffiti.

The residents' association of the Breiðholt district in northern Reykjavik, in collaboration with the art department at the Fjölbrautarskólinn í Breiðholt community college, has completed a new large mural. The artwork, titled "The Flow of Birds," was painted on the end wall of the apartment building at Vesturberg 70–74, based on a winning design from an internal student competition.
The idea for the mural was initiated by the residents' association, seeking to provide local art students with an opportunity to create a public artwork. Residents hope that the mural will discourage illicit graffiti, which had previously been an issue on the wall.
Breiðholt has seen several significant mural projects since 2013, featuring works by artists such as Erró, Sara Riel, Ragnar Kjartansson, and Theresa Himmer. These installations have contributed to the area's reputation as an interesting art destination.
The "Flow of Birds" project was funded through contributions from the residents themselves, the City of Reykjavík, and a local store named Litaland.
