New Picture Book Explains Bipolar Disorder Through A Mother's Story

A new children's book titled "Mommy Is a Rainbow" aims to explain bipolar disorder to young readers by using the colors of a rainbow to represent a mother's fluctuating moods.

The book is written by Arlette E. Jackson, who lives with bipolar disorder and has experience in mental health advocacy. In the story, the mother compares herself to a rainbow to explain her changing emotions, from joy to sorrow, to her daughter using different colors. The goal is to help children understand mental health challenges and their impact on relationships.

The book also includes a section explaining the symptoms and types of bipolar disorder. Additionally, it lists mental health organizations and helplines to support conversations about mental health.

Jackson, drawing on her background as a chaplain and founder of a mental health nonprofit, uses her theological and clinical experience to simplify the complex topic. The book was published by WestBow Press.
