New Quantum Facility Opens in Albuquerque
A new 35,000-square-foot quantum facility, Roadrunner Quantum Lab, has opened in Albuquerque. The space supports New Mexico's $450 million investment in quantum technology and hosts several leading companies and research institutions.
Albuquerque, New Mexico – Roadrunner Venture Studios and New Mexico's Technology and Innovation Office (TIO) have officially opened the Roadrunner Quantum Lab (RQL) in Albuquerque. The 35,000-square-foot facility is designed to support the state's $450 million commitment to quantum technology, providing access to lab space, specialized equipment, and collaborations with leading researchers.
The facility aims to foster both new quantum startups and established companies. It has already attracted several prominent firms, including Diraq, IonQ, Quantum Machines, and QuEra, as well as national laboratories Sandia and Los Alamos. These entities are expected to drive advancements in the quantum field and create high-skill jobs within the state.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham highlighted the project's significance, stating, "The Roadrunner Quantum Lab cements New Mexico's place at the forefront of quantum research in America. It is paying off in high-paying jobs and meaningful opportunities for New Mexicans to lead at the cutting edge of quantum technology."
The lab's establishment is part of New Mexico's strategy to become a key player in quantum technology. It offers the physical infrastructure and a collaborative environment intended to translate research into commercial products and services, while also promoting the development of local expertise and strengthening the ecosystem in the Southwest region.
