New Section of Beijing-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway to Open
China Railway announced that the Xiong'an to Shangqiu section of the Beijing-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway will begin operation on September 28. This new segment significantly reduces travel time between the two cities.
China Railway has announced the upcoming operational launch of the Xiong'an to Shangqiu section of the Beijing-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway on September 28. This 552-kilometer segment is designed for speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour, cutting the fastest travel time between Xiong'an and Shangqiu to just 2 hours and 27 minutes.
The new line forms part of China's extensive "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed rail network. The overall Beijing-Hong Kong line connects multiple major cities including Beijing, Xiong'an, Shangqiu, Hefei, Nanchang, Ganzhou, and Shenzhen, ultimately reaching Hong Kong's West Kowloon Station.
The Xiong'an-Shangqiu section features 16 stations serving cities across Hebei, Shandong, and Henan provinces. Ticket sales for the new route commenced on September 25. Initially, up to 64 daily train services will operate, including new cross-line high-speed trains connecting Xiong'an directly to Shanghai for the first time.
The completion of this section marks a significant expansion of China's high-speed rail infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and travel efficiency. It is expected to foster regional development by improving transportation links between northern and southern economic hubs.
