New Unicorn Companies Surpass 2025 Totals in H1 2026

A record 195 companies achieved unicorn status in the first half of 2026, exceeding the total for all of 2025, which saw 193 new entrants. This surge occurred within a bifurcated funding environment with wide valuation ranges.

Robotics and AI neolabs emerged as the leading sectors for new unicorns. Financial services, healthcare and biotech, alongside AI infrastructure, defense, semiconductors, and aerospace, also saw notable additions.

These new unicorns have added approximately $440 billion in value to the unicorn board, with the cohort having raised $80 billion over time.

The most valuable new unicorn was China-based DeepSeek, valued at $50 billion. Seychelles-based crypto exchange OKX followed at $25 billion, and OpenAI Deployment Co. ranked third at $14 billion.

The U.S. led in new unicorn creation with 110 companies, accounting for 56% of the total. China ranked second with 38 companies, a significant increase from 2025. The U.K. was the third-largest market with 13 companies.
