New York City launches new team to improve technology services
New York City is establishing a new team, the Public Interest Technology Crew (PIT Crew), aimed at transforming digital interfaces and constituent services across city agencies. The initiative seeks to make interacting with city government more efficient.

New York City is undertaking a significant technological overhaul with the formation of a new team dedicated to improving digital services within city agencies. The mayor's office has begun the hiring process for this initiative.
Leading the effort is the city's new Chief Technology Officer, Lisa Gelobter. Gelobter previously played a role in establishing the U.S. Digital Service, which originated during the Obama administration. Her aim is to bring similar principles of efficient government technology to New York City.
The newly formed team, known as the Public Interest Technology Crew (PIT Crew), will initially focus on supporting the "Click-to-Cancel" initiative. This rule aims to prevent businesses from making subscription cancellations difficult for consumers. The group plans to develop a portal for reporting non-compliant companies.
Gelobter described the PIT Crew's approach as focusing on short-cycle projects, typically lasting around 12 weeks from conception to rollout. This rapid development model is intended to quickly deliver tangible improvements and leverage technology as a strategic asset for the city.
