New York City Marathon scheduled for November 1

The New York City Marathon, organized by New York Road Runners (NYRR), takes place this Sunday, November 1. Since its inception in 1970, the event has expanded into a global athletic fixture, setting a record of over 59,000 finishers in 2025.

The course begins at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island and spans all five boroughs before concluding in Central Park. Due to the scale of the route, the city will implement significant traffic disruptions, including the closure of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and transverse roads within Central Park. Residents are advised to check official city channels for specific timing on road closures and parking restrictions.

Live coverage will be available via WABC-TV in the New York area and ESPN2 nationally. NYRR has also released an official mobile application to allow spectators to track runners and view race leaderboards. Several high-profile participants are entered in the race to raise funds for charitable organizations, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the CMAK Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation.
