Nexans, a manufacturer of electrical cables, announced that its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission targets for 2030 have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This validation underscores the company's commitment to decarbonization and its strategy to support the global energy transition.

The company aims to reduce its absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 46.2% by 2030, compared to a 2019 baseline. Additionally, Nexans plans to decrease its absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 24% within the same timeframe. Scope 1 and 2 cover emissions from industrial operations and energy consumption, while Scope 3 encompasses emissions across the value chain, including raw material extraction and the use of sold products.

SBTi's assessment confirmed that Nexans' targets for Scope 1 and 2 are aligned with the 1.5°C trajectory set by the Paris Agreement. The organization noted that these targets represent the most ambitious designation currently available through the SBTi process.

Nexans intends to embed sustainability across all divisions, from innovation and product development to manufacturing operations and supply chain management. This validation reinforces Nexans' position as a pure electrification player with a focus on sustainable practices for the next decade.
