Nexans and Hydro agree on aluminum supply for Europe's power grids
Cable systems manufacturer Nexans and aluminum company Hydro have signed a five-year agreement for the supply of low-carbon aluminum wire rod to support Europe's electricity infrastructure.

Nexans, a manufacturer of cable systems, and Norwegian aluminum and energy company Hydro have signed a five-year long-term agreement for the supply of approximately 85,000 tons of low-carbon aluminum wire rod.
The agreement aims to support Europe's energy transition and the modernization of its power grids. Nexans will use the aluminum in the production of power cable solutions for medium-voltage grids, overhead transmission lines, and subsea high-voltage infrastructure. The aluminum is produced in Norway using 100% renewable energy, with a verified carbon footprint below 4.0 kg CO₂ per kg of aluminum.
Supply security and the availability of sustainable materials are becoming increasingly crucial as Europe expands its renewable energy infrastructure. Both companies are reinforcing their commitment to sustainability. Hydro is also investing in expanding the capacity of its Karmøy smelter to meet growing demand.
The agreement is particularly significant for the Nordic market, where demand for low-carbon and traceable materials is rapidly increasing in energy infrastructure projects. The partnership supports Europe's goals of building competitive and energy-secure power grids.
