Nexans Completes Estlink 2 Baltic Subsea Cable Repair
Nexans has finalized repairs on the Estlink 2 subsea electricity interconnector between Finland and Estonia. The cable, damaged in December 2024, has been restored, re-establishing a critical energy link for the Baltic region.

Nexans, a global provider of subsea cable systems, has completed the repair of the Estlink 2 electricity interconnector connecting Finland and Estonia. The work was performed under contract for Fingrid, Finland's transmission system operator, re-establishing a vital link for the Baltic region's energy supply.
The Estlink 2 interconnector sustained damage in December 2024, necessitating an urgent investigation and repair. Nexans mobilized its dedicated offshore repair teams in early 2025, with the offshore repair campaign taking place in May. The operation involved replacing a one-kilometer section of the subsea cable.
A specialized vessel was equipped and dispatched with all necessary jointing equipment, tools, and spare materials. The repair was executed safely and on schedule, ensuring the interconnector's return to operation. Fingrid has acknowledged Nexans' commitment and technical expertise throughout the process, highlighting the interconnector's role in regional energy security.
The Estlink 2 interconnector, commissioned in 2014, has a capacity of 650 MW and comprises 145 kilometers of subsea cable manufactured by Nexans. This project underscores Nexans' focus on inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) services for subsea energy infrastructure.
