Nexans inaugurates new 53-meter high-voltage tower in Charleroi

NEXANS has inaugurated a new 53-meter high-voltage tower at its Charleroi facility in Belgium. The structure is part of the company's €90 million investment program aimed at expanding high-voltage cable manufacturing capacity across Europe to meet growing demand.

The new tower significantly enhances NEXANS' capability to produce next-generation 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) land cables, as well as future high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) systems. These cable systems are designed for efficient, long-distance transmission of large electricity volumes, connecting renewable energy sources to consumers and reinforcing European electricity grids.

The investment in Charleroi is part of a €90 million program announced in 2024 to support offshore wind development and major grid interconnections in Europe. This includes the new tower, alongside upgrades to manufacturing and testing facilities, and increased production capacity for advanced HV technologies.

The Charleroi facility has a legacy of over a century in high-voltage cable manufacturing. NEXANS states this investment reinforces its role in supplying advanced high-voltage cable solutions to European transmission system operators and infrastructure projects, contributing to sustainable electrification.
