Nexans Installs HVDC Cable at World-Record Depth

Cable manufacturer Nexans has achieved a new world record by installing and testing a 525kV mass-impregnated (MI) high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea cable at a depth of 3,000 meters during a recent sea trial.

During the offshore campaign, Nexans installed and tested the cable section. Following recovery, comprehensive electrical testing and visual inspection confirmed the integrity of the cable system and its ability to perform under extreme deep-water conditions.

The post-trial high-voltage testing was conducted at a level 30% above typical industry standards, further validating the system's robustness and reliability. Visual inspection of the cable showed no issues.

This milestone reinforces Nexans' expertise in deep-water MI HVDC technology, building on its previous record of 2,150 meters set in December 2025 on the Tyrrhenian Link project. The achievement is significant for advancing subsea power transmission capabilities, supporting projects like the Great Sea Interconnector linking Greece and Cyprus.
