Nexans invests 90 million euros to expand copper recycling in France

Nexans has announced a capital investment exceeding 90 million euros to upgrade its production site in Lens, France. Partnering with industry specialist Continuus Properzi, the company plans to operationalize a new facility by 2026 that will bolster its domestic copper processing capabilities.

The project is designed to increase the site’s wire rod production capacity by more than 50 percent, with a focus on scaling copper recycling. The facility will utilize advanced refining methods capable of incorporating up to 100 percent recycled content into its output. This development is central to Nexans’ goal of achieving a 30 percent recycled copper content across its cable products by 2030.

By enhancing its internal recycling capacity, Nexans aims to secure its supply chain against global market fluctuations and the increasing scarcity of raw materials. The move underscores the company's shift toward a circular economic model, processing scrap from urban mining and end-of-life construction projects. Supported by the French government’s "France 2030" plan, the project maintains the company's industrial presence in the Hauts-de-France region.
