Nexans Invests in AI Firm Sensewaves for Grid Analytics

Cable manufacturer Nexans announced an investment in French technology firm Sensewaves, acquiring a minority stake alongside American Electric Power (AEP). Sensewaves specializes in AI-powered analytics designed to improve the visibility and operational awareness of electricity distribution grids.

The startup's Adaptix.Grid platform uses artificial intelligence to provide granular insights into low and medium voltage networks. It aims to unify disparate data sources, offering clarity on energy flows, congestion, and power quality, even with incomplete data. The platform is designed for rapid deployment and interoperability.

The investment will support Sensewaves' growth, including strengthening its research and development, product development, sales, and marketing teams. This aligns with Nexans' strategic shift towards a user-centric offering that integrates services and software solutions, moving beyond a purely product-focused approach.

Nexans views this partnership as a way to enhance its electrification solutions for utilities. By combining its hardware expertise with Sensewaves' AI capabilities, Nexans seeks to provide grid operators with tools to address the challenges of the energy transition and increasing demand, improving grid reliability and efficiency.
