Nexans Joins Current/OS Foundation to Promote DC Microgrids
Cable manufacturer Nexans has joined the Current/OS Foundation, an organization focused on promoting and standardizing the adoption of active direct current (DC) microgrids in buildings.

Cable manufacturer Nexans has announced its membership in the Current/OS Foundation, a non-profit entity dedicated to the promotion and adoption of active direct current (DC) microgrids. The foundation aims to establish unified standards for DC microgrid control systems.
Max-André Delannoy, Group Technical & Innovation VP at Nexans, highlighted that many modern devices in buildings, such as LED lighting, electric vehicles, and HVAC systems, are DC-powered. He noted that DC technology can enhance energy efficiency by reducing conversion losses associated with AC/DC converters. Nexans' involvement with the foundation will support the development of appropriate cable solutions for future DC-enabled buildings.
The adoption of DC-powered buildings faces challenges, including the need for industry professional training familiar with AC systems and the development of updated building codes and standards. The Current/OS Foundation seeks to address these by providing an open set of rules and clear guidelines for manufacturers, ensuring interoperability within its DC environment.
Nexans' participation signifies a commitment to innovation and enabling the transition to more efficient electrical infrastructure. This move aligns with broader industry trends toward smarter, more sustainable energy systems in the built environment.
