Nexans launches cable recycling and recovery service in Europe

Nexans, a pioneer in electrification, is strengthening its role in the circular economy with the launch of its CableLoop service. This new offering focuses on collecting, transporting, and transforming cable off-cuts and used cables into raw materials. The company aims to incorporate at least 25% recycled copper in its cable manufacturing by 2028.

Amidst rising electricity demand and growing concerns over raw material shortages, including copper, recycling is becoming increasingly critical. The CableLoop service aims to foster a closed-loop system, extending material lifecycles and promoting reuse. This approach reduces reliance on virgin resources and lowers the carbon footprint associated with electrification.

Nexans already recycles over 40,000 metric tons of its own production waste annually. In Europe, part of this process is handled through the RecyCâbles joint venture with Suez in Noyelles-Godault, northern France. CableLoop will offer two client-focused services: "CableLoop Enterprises" for businesses, with on-site collection, and "CableLoop Professionals" through specialized distributors for professional customers and electricians.

The company anticipates collecting over 800 metric tons of used cables by 2025 and plans to expand the model to several European countries, including Germany, Belgium, Spain, and Italy. Nexans will provide tailored logistics solutions and streamlined, web-based waste management.
