Nexans opens new center for data center electrification technologies

Nexans has opened its new Stella Nova Center of Excellence in Hanover, Germany, located on the Panattoni Campus. The facility, spanning 9,000 m², houses over 70 experts focused on three strategic areas: high-precision forming and welding for the energy and industrial sectors, cryogenic systems for transporting fluids like hydrogen, and superconducting cable and fault current limiter systems.

The center's inauguration coincides with a world-first demonstration of superconducting low-voltage AC and DC cables. These are designed to meet the significant power demands of future hyperscale data centers, offering high energy efficiency, a compact design, and enhanced sustainability. Superconducting cables can transmit up to ten times more power than conventional cables with zero energy loss and minimal heat generation.

This initiative addresses the growing energy needs of data centers, which are projected to consume up to 10% of global electricity by 2030. Nexans aims to provide solutions that improve capacity, efficiency, and sustainability in the sector. The technology also offers potential applications beyond data centers.

The opening of Stella Nova also marks Nexans' 125th anniversary. The company highlights its historical role in electrification and its ongoing commitment to supporting the transition to renewable energy and decarbonizing infrastructure.
