Nexans receives new cable-laying vessel Nexans Electra

Cable manufacturer Nexans has officially received its new subsea cable laying vessel, the CLV Nexans Electra. The ship's naming ceremony was held in Ulstein, Norway, on April 28, 2026, with the official handover completed on May 18, 2026.

The new vessel is designed to meet the growing global demand for installing subsea cables for offshore wind farms and high-voltage interconnections. The Nexans Electra represents the latest technology in cable laying and significantly enhances Nexans' capabilities to undertake complex EPCI (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation) projects worldwide.

The vessel has a capacity of 13,500 tonnes of cables and can lay up to four cables simultaneously. It is equipped with advanced tools for subsea installations and a hybrid propulsion system capable of using biodiesel, significantly reducing emissions. The ship is designed for both deep-sea and coastal operations.

The Nexans Electra is part of the company's strategy to strengthen its world-class installation fleet, joining the CLV Nexans Aurora and CLV Nexans Skagerrak. Nexans describes this as a significant step in its long-term investment strategy to support the energy transition.
