Nexans to Build Third Generation Cable Laying Vessel
Nexans is investing in a new cutting-edge cable laying vessel, set for delivery in 2026, to meet growing demand in the offshore wind and interconnection markets. The vessel will enhance loading capacity and the ability to lay multiple cables simultaneously.

Nexans, a global leader in cable systems, announced it will build a third cable laying vessel to expand its fleet. This strategic investment aims to address the increasing demand for electrification driven by a record project backlog and strengthen its position in the offshore wind and interconnection sectors.
The new vessel, scheduled for delivery in 2026, will build upon the capabilities of the Nexans Aurora. It will feature an enhanced loading capacity of 13,500 tonnes and the ability to lay up to four cables simultaneously using advanced subsea tooling. The ship will also incorporate an advanced hybrid power system and be capable of running on a biodiesel mix, reducing its environmental footprint.
This expansion comes as Nexans secures significant contracts, including a €1.7 billion deal with TenneT and a €1.43 billion contract for the Great Sea Interconnector project. These projects highlight the robust growth and investment in renewable energy infrastructure and cross-border power connections.
The construction and operation of the new vessel are expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs worldwide. Nexans states the vessel will be the most technologically advanced of its kind, enhancing the company's subsea cable operations and solidifying its leadership in the offshore market.
