NexPoint Residential Trust reports third-quarter net loss of $11.5 million
NexPoint Residential Trust reported a wider net loss for the third quarter of 2026 as increased operating and interest expenses outpaced revenue gains.
NexPoint Residential Trust, Inc. announced a net loss of $11.5 million for the third quarter of 2026, an increase from the $7.8 million net loss reported during the same period in 2025. The results reflected a challenging quarter for the Dallas-based real estate investment trust.
Financial performance was pressured by rising costs, with property operating expenses and interest expenses increasing by $2.0 million and $2.6 million, respectively. While total revenue rose to $64.5 million from $62.8 million in the prior-year period, this was insufficient to offset the higher expenditure. Same-store net operating income (NOI) declined by 8.2% compared to the third quarter of 2025.
As of September 30, 2026, the company’s portfolio of 36 properties maintained a physical occupancy rate of 92.8%. The company continued its capital expenditure program, completing 708 unit upgrades during the quarter, which yielded an average monthly rent premium of $42.54.
