NGP VAN reports record-scale grassroots activity in 2026 midterms

NGP VAN has released data outlining the scale of voter outreach and grassroots organizing during the 2026 midterm elections. The company, which provides software for Democratic and progressive campaigns, reported high levels of activity on its volunteer recruitment and event management platforms, including Mobilize.

During the 2026 cycle, campaigns logged 217.3 million door-knocking attempts, resulting in 42.8 million successful voter conversations. Of these, 182 million knocks were managed through the MiniVAN application, utilized by 376,000 unique volunteers. According to the data, 60% of these canvassers participated in multiple shifts, indicating a high level of recurring engagement.

Participation on the Mobilize platform increased significantly compared to the 2024 election cycle, recording 19.7 million signups from 5.3 million unique participants, 3.6 million of whom were first-time users. Organizing efforts were further amplified by friend-to-friend outreach, which generated 2.9 million signups, and volunteer-hosted events, which added another 5.7 million.

NGP VAN General Manager Chelsea Peterson Thompson stated that the election underscored the necessity of scalable technology in supporting traditional voter engagement methods. The company is currently exploring further technological developments to maintain this organizing momentum beyond election cycles.
