NIB Finances Electrification of Riga's Trolleybus Network
The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) is providing a EUR 15 million loan to Rīgas satiksme to support the electrification and modernization of Riga's trolleybus network.

The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has provided a EUR 15 million loan to Rīgas satiksme, the public transport operator in Riga, Latvia. The financing will support the electrification and modernization of the capital city's trolleybus network.
The investment funds are earmarked for expanding the electrified trolleybus network and upgrading existing infrastructure. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and enhance the environmental performance of public transport.
Currently, several trolleybus routes in Riga operate beyond the existing catenary lines, requiring the use of auxiliary diesel engines. The NIB loan will enable Rīgas satiksme to extend the overhead power network, facilitating fully electric operations across a larger portion of the system.
The NIB financing aligns with Riga's objectives to develop a more sustainable transport system and improve operational efficiency while reducing emissions.
