The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has entered into a 10-year loan agreement with Elkem ASA worth NOK 750 million (approximately EUR 64 million). The funds are designated for the Norwegian industrial materials company's research and development activities to be conducted in Norway from 2025 through 2029.

Elkem's R&D programme centers on process innovation, enhancing energy efficiency, reducing emissions, and developing low-carbon materials. The company stated that these investments are integral to its long-term strategy for competitiveness and decarbonisation.

Approximately 40% of the planned investments are expected to yield direct environmental benefits. The remaining investments are intended to indirectly support environmental objectives by improving factors such as production yield and operational efficiency.

The initiative aims to bolster Elkem's market standing within the materials sector while advancing its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.
