NIB finances Malmö's wastewater infrastructure
The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has signed a SEK 1 billion 15-year credit facility with the City of Malmö to support investments in wastewater and stormwater infrastructure.

The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has entered into a 15-year credit agreement with the City of Malmö, valued at SEK 1 billion (approximately EUR 86 million). This financing is earmarked to support substantial investments in the city's wastewater and stormwater infrastructure throughout the period of 2025–2029.
The project aims to enhance local water management practices and bolster environmental protection. The investment program will focus on the renewal and upgrading of existing water systems to address growing demands and comply with stricter environmental regulations.
These infrastructure upgrades will be executed by VA Syd, a municipal utility responsible for water and wastewater services, as well as waste management solutions for Malmö and surrounding municipalities including Burlöv, Eslöv, Lomma, and Lund. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to safeguard regional water bodies and promote sustainable development within the area.
