Nigerian founder Juliet Chinenye Duru has developed two AI-powered tools designed to solve tangible problems in Nigeria and the broader African context. AgriAI offers smallholder farmers region-specific crop yield predictions and actionable recommendations, operating on affordable Android phones with standard 3G connections.
Meanwhile, NaijaLearn-AI functions as a free, multilingual AI tutor covering STEM and ICT topics in English and local languages including Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo. The service is accessible to students at over 250 Nigerian universities without registration or fees. Duru handles all aspects from product design and engineering to deployment and research.
Nigeria loses an estimated NGN 3.5 trillion annually to preventable crop failures. Existing precision agriculture tools often require high-bandwidth environments and expensive devices, unaffordable for most smallholder farmers. For NaijaLearn-AI, common AI tutors assume reliable broadband and English fluency, and are not tailored to Nigerian curricula or local languages.
Duru has self-funded and bootstrapped both tools, keeping costs low as the sole founder and developer. While both tools have recently launched, the focus has been on product refinement over aggressive marketing. AgriAI is available on the Play Store, and NaijaLearn-AI is publicly accessible. Duru is now shifting focus towards user growth following encouraging early feedback.
