Nightpeak Energy Completes 300 MW Battery Storage Project in ERCOT
Nightpeak Energy has completed its 300 MW battery storage project in the ERCOT grid in Texas with the operational launch of Bocanova 2, doubling the site's capacity.

Nightpeak Energy has completed its 300-megawatt (MW) battery storage project in the ERCOT power grid in Texas, bringing the Bocanova 2 facility online. The 150 MW Bocanova 2 project achieved commercial operation on September 17, doubling the total capacity of the Bocanova site to 300 MW. The project is located in Southeast Texas, near the Houston metropolitan area, a region experiencing significant electricity demand growth.
The Bocanova 2 project, designed for two hours of duration, adds substantial flexibility to the Texas grid. This is critical as increasing demand from data centers and other large energy consumers rapidly expands electricity needs in the area. The first 150 MW phase, Bocanova 1, began commercial operations in August 2025.
Nightpeak Energy utilized Tesla's Megapack 2 XL battery storage systems for Bocanova 2. The project received financing through loans from MUFG Bank and traditional tax equity from U.S. Bank. Founded in 2022, Nightpeak focuses on developing and owning flexible power generation and large-load enablement assets across the United States.
Operating from Houston and Oakland, Nightpeak Energy manages a portfolio exceeding 1 GW, encompassing power generation and battery storage. The company aims to meet rising electricity and AI demand while supporting a reliable, lower-carbon electric grid.
