NILT introduces metaEye camera using metasurface optics
Danish optics firm NILT has launched metaEye, a specialized camera module designed for eye-tracking applications.
Denmark-based NILT has released the metaEye camera, a device constructed entirely using metasurface optical components. The system integrates two optical elements, a bandpass filter, and an aperture into a single unit mounted directly onto the sensor's protective glass.
The module measures 1.68 by 1.68 by 2.11 millimeters and weighs 12.9 milligrams. Designed for eye-tracking, it operates at a wavelength of 850 nanometers. It supports performance levels of 240 frames per second at 400x400 resolution, or 480 frames per second at 200x200 resolution.
Metasurface optics rely on sub-wavelength nanostructures to manipulate light properties on a flat surface. By eliminating the need for bulky traditional lenses, this technology aims to facilitate the integration of high-performance sensors into constrained spaces such as smart glasses and augmented reality headsets.
