Ningbo Taisen Furniture implements circular design for hotel furnishings
Ningbo Taisen Furniture is shifting toward modular furniture design and product take-back schemes to reduce waste and operational costs in the hospitality sector.

Ningbo Taisen Furniture has introduced a circular design framework for hospitality furnishings, aimed at addressing the high waste levels associated with frequent hotel renovations. As the hospitality industry faces increasing regulatory and environmental pressure, the company is transitioning away from traditional, non-recyclable manufacturing methods toward modular, repairable systems.
Central to this strategy is 'design for disassembly,' which prioritizes the use of mechanical fasteners over adhesives. This shift allows hoteliers to replace individual components of chairs, beds, and tables rather than disposing of the entire asset. By standardizing connections and moving away from laminated surfaces, the furniture can be easily repaired or broken down for material recovery.
Beyond design, the initiative includes take-back programs that facilitate the refurbishment or recycling of retired inventory. These programs aim to extend product lifecycles and lower long-term procurement costs for hoteliers. This approach aligns with broader industry trends toward ESG compliance and sustainable procurement, providing a mechanism for hotels to minimize their carbon footprint while maintaining durability standards.
