Nintendo admits underestimating market reaction to Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake
Nintendo admitted it underestimated the market demand for "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" remake and its 40th-anniversary edition Switch 2 console. The console sold out immediately in many regions.
Nintendo has acknowledged that it underestimated the market demand for its "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" remake and the associated 40th-anniversary edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 console. Bill van Zyll, Nintendo of America's Vice President for Latin America, stated in a recent interview that the game and console have become a global phenomenon, exceeding company expectations.
"If we had foreseen this, the situation wouldn't be this way, right? At least not to this extent," van Zyll said. He added that the company encountered similar issues worldwide and apologized for the situation. "We underestimated player enthusiasm, and products have been out of stock everywhere, with pre-order volumes reaching their limits."
The 40th-anniversary edition of the Nintendo Switch 2, tied to the "The Legend of Zelda" series' 40th anniversary, sold out quickly upon release in numerous regions. Significant restocking efforts have not yet materialized, leading to frustration among fans.
Nintendo has plans to restock the anniversary edition, though a specific timeline has not been announced. The company attributes the shortages to unexpectedly high demand, not production capacity.
