Nintendo Patent Reveals New Dock With Switch 1 and Switch 2 Compatibility
Nintendo has filed a patent for a new console dock designed to work with both the current Switch 1 and the upcoming Switch 2. The patent details a device that automatically adjusts its settings based on the connected console.

Japanese gaming company Nintendo has revealed a new patent application for a game console docking station. The patent document, initially published in China under the identifier CN122371385A, describes a device capable of connecting to both the Nintendo Switch 1 and the anticipated Switch 2.
The patent indicates that the dock can automatically switch operating modes depending on the connected console. When linked with the Switch 2, the dock is designed to output higher resolution video signals to a display and enable USB 3.0 data transfer. Conversely, when connected to a Switch 1, it will revert to lower resolution video output and utilize USB 2.0 data transfer.
Additionally, the new dock design incorporates a built-in fan that adjusts its speed based on the connected device to enhance cooling efficiency. This feature suggests potential performance improvements or extended usage for the newer console model.
Interpretations of the patent's purpose vary. Some sources suggest it might represent a research project or an early, potentially abandoned, design. The patent was filed in December 2025 and published in July 2026, placing it around the expected timeframe for the Switch 2's release.
