Nintendo Switch 2 Adds VRR Support in TV Mode

Nintendo has released firmware update 23.0.0 for its Switch 2 console, adding Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support for the device when it is docked and connected to a television. This feature was promised at launch but was not initially available.

VRR synchronizes a display's refresh rate with a game's frame rate output. This technology helps to reduce screen tearing and provide a smoother visual experience, particularly in games with fluctuating frame rates. Competitors such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X already offer VRR support.

The update also includes a new toggle for "handheld boost mode" accessible via the quick settings menu. Additionally, the firmware brings other minor enhancements and adjustments to the console's overall performance and functionality.
