Nintendo to end original Switch sales in Europe next February
Nintendo will stop selling the original Switch console in Europe next February due to new EU battery regulations. This move signals a potential transition towards a newer model.

New York – Nintendo has announced it will cease sales of the original Nintendo Switch console in Europe come February 2025. The decision stems from upcoming European Union regulations mandating easily replaceable batteries in most consumer electronics.
Rather than redesign multiple original Switch models to comply with the new battery directive, Nintendo has opted to discontinue the older console's sale in the region. These new battery rules will not affect the Switch's availability outside of Europe.
The move has sparked speculation about how much longer Nintendo intends to sell the seven-year-old Switch, now that the company and the market are focusing attention on the Switch 2. While European sales end, availability in other territories may continue for some time.
An analysis of Nintendo's past sales data indicates that even the company's bestselling hardware typically sees sales decline to zero after about nine years on the market. However, the Switch has proven to be a relatively resilient market force that could sustain its commercial life well into its second decade.
