Nokia 1830 PSS-HC Enhances Network Capacity for Operators
Nokia Oyj has launched its new 1830 PSS-HC (Photonic Service Switch High Capacity) shelves, designed to increase network capacity and improve efficiency with minimal disruption to existing infrastructure.

Nokia Oyj has introduced the 1830 PSS-HC (Photonic Service Switch High Capacity) line, comprising the 1830 PSS-4hc and 1830 PSS-10hc shelves, to address the growing data demands of telecommunications operators. These new high-capacity shelves integrate Nokia's latest embedded and pluggable coherent optical engines.
A key feature highlighted by Nokia is the seamless integration of the PSS-HC shelves into existing 1830 PSS networks. They utilize the same software as other products in the 1830 PSS family, ensuring interoperability and operational consistency. The solution is also supported by Nokia's WaveSuite automation and management software, facilitating smoother deployment and maintenance.
The new shelves are designed for flexibility and future-readiness, supporting speeds up to 1.2 terabits per second per wavelength with the advanced PSE-6s coherent optical engines. They also accommodate industry-leading 800G ZR/ZR+ pluggable modules. The modular design allows for cost-effective scaling according to user needs while meeting multi-service and carrier-class requirements.
Nokia states that the 1830 PSS-HC offers teleoperators a combination of next-generation technology, multi-service capabilities, and carrier-class reliability. The company plans to showcase the solution at the Network X event in Paris from October 14–16, 2025.
