Nokia Adds Features to Digital Automation Cloud Platform

Espoo, Finland – Nokia announced in September 2020 new value-added features and digital automation enablers for its Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) private wireless networking platform. The platform provides private 4.9G/LTE and 5G network connectivity for industrial applications.

The new features expand the platform's application catalog and its ecosystem of IoT modules, which are crucial for Industry 4.0 implementations. Enabled by its cloud-native application framework, the Nokia DAC application catalog offers a simplified approach to software installation and lifecycle management. Offerings include Nokia's high-accuracy positioning, scene analytics, and new voice and video communication solutions.

Furthermore, the platform introduces industrial connectors that enable compatibility with common and industry-specific protocols such as PROFINET and Modbus. This facilitates the integration of private wireless networks and edge computing with existing systems and machinery. The platform also supports the deployment of Microsoft Azure IoT Edge services.

According to Nokia, these updates aim to accelerate customers' transition to Industry 4.0 use cases by improving IoT, analytics, automation, and remote operations. The DAC platform is designed to address challenges related to data architecture, backward and forward compatibility, and system integration.

Nokia DAC is an industrial-grade digital automation platform combining a reliable, high-performance private wireless network with edge computing and an application catalog. It is designed to securely collect, process, and host enterprise data on-site.
