Nokia advances development of 6G wireless standard

Nokia is reinforcing its role in shaping the standards for 6G technology, with industry stakeholders set to convene in Incheon, South Korea, for a workshop to discuss the vision and priorities for the next generation of wireless networks. The meeting, gathering over 800 delegates, marks the beginning of a collective industry effort to reach a consensus on the scope of 6G by the end of 2028. This work builds on Nokia's fundamental research and collaborations in 6G technologies, which began in 2018.

Nokia's vision for 6G anticipates a seamless integration of the digital, physical, and human worlds, powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Initial innovations are expected to provide immediate operational and economic benefits. The company's key objectives for 6G development focus on creating a network that is maximally impactful, intelligent, sustainable, and cyber-resilient. This includes enhancing performance through new spectrum and efficiency, leveraging AI for network design and operations, promoting a low-carbon and circular economy, and ensuring security against cyber threats with quantum-safe technologies.

To ensure transparency and provide continuous updates on the standard's evolution, Nokia is launching a new series of LinkedIn Live sessions. These sessions will supplement the company's existing publications and aim to offer early insights into the upcoming 6G standard, particularly for those not participating in the 3GPP meetings.

Nokia has a history of pioneering previous generations of wireless communication and aims to continue its guiding role in realizing the sixth generation. The company emphasizes its commitment to driving sustainable innovation and connectivity for a better world.
