Nokia and eir Extend IP Collaboration to Support Growing Services in Ireland

Dublin, Ireland – Telecom equipment manufacturer Nokia and Irish telecommunications provider eir announced an extension of their IP collaboration. The partnership aims to support eir's expanding customer base and its rollout of new services.

The agreement involves the deployment of a new 400/800 gigabit Ethernet (GE) IP backbone. This upgrade is designed to accommodate increased data traffic from both fixed and mobile subscribers and to enhance network capacity for future growth.

eir will integrate Nokia's 7750 Service Router platform, powered by Nokia's FP5 routing silicon. This technology is intended to provide greater flexibility, improved power efficiency, and enhanced security for the network. The investment supports eir's objective to deliver reliable and high-speed connectivity throughout Ireland.

"This announcement further supports our strategy to 'Connect for a Better Ireland', enabling access to the latest technology and fastest speeds and to grow our network capacity to meet continued customer and traffic growth," said Fergal McCann, Chief Technology Officer at eir. Phil Siveter, CEO of Nokia UK and Ireland, highlighted the long-standing relationship, noting their IP collaboration began over 15 years ago.
