Nokia automates 4G/5G network slicing across RAN, transport, and core
Nokia announced it is the first vendor to offer automated 4G and 5G network slicing across all network domains. The new capabilities allow mobile operators to deploy network slices in minutes, rather than hours or days.

Nokia Oyj has announced it is the first vendor to offer automated 4G and 5G network slicing across all network domains, including Radio Access Network (RAN), transport, and core. The company's new automation capabilities extend its existing end-to-end network slicing solution.
The enhanced solution allows mobile operators to deliver and assure network slicing services within minutes, a significant reduction from the previous timeframe of hours or days. Nokia states this acceleration helps streamline operations, reduce costs, and meet the increasing demand for rapid service deployment.
The automation capabilities encompass new network management, controller, and orchestration functions. These components enable the real-time management of network slices—creation, modification, and deletion—across RAN, transport, and core domains. The system is designed to support multi-vendor environments and is compliant with 3GPP and IETF slicing specifications.
Nokia highlighted that operators can create custom policies and profiles for slices with varying performance, quality, and security requirements. This facilitates the offering of tailored slicing services for enterprises, IoT applications, fixed wireless access, and content providers. Initial deliveries are scheduled for the end of 2020.
