Nokia's Bell Labs published a study on January 1, 1929, that detailed the magnetic properties of perminvar, a class of iron-nickel-cobalt alloys. The publication reflects early 20th-century advancements in materials science and electrical engineering.

The research described how specific heat treatments endowed these alloys with unusual constancy of permeability and extremely low hysteresis losses at low flux densities. Furthermore, the materials exhibited peculiar hysteresis loops that constricted in the middle as maximum flux densities increased.

The study outlined methods for preparing and heat-treating the perminvar alloys. It also illustrated the changes in magnetic properties resulting from variations in composition and different heat treatments. A theory was suggested regarding constitutional changes effected by heat treatment, which were responsible for the alloys' unique magnetic characteristics.

This early research highlights Bell Labs' long-standing contributions to understanding material science, laying foundational knowledge for future technological developments in telecommunications.
