Nokia Bell Labs Publishes Research on Digital Predistortion
Nokia Bell Labs has published a paper detailing a new method for linearizing radio frequency power amplifiers. The technique aims to reduce device complexity and improve performance.
Nokia Bell Labs, Nokia's research arm, published on January 1, 2013, a paper concerning digital predistortion (DPD). The method is designed to linearize radio frequency (RF) high power amplifiers (PAs).
The new research proposes an adaptive scheme for selecting basis functions for both direct and indirect learning DPD architectures. The advantage of this adaptive approach is a reduction in complexity, while simultaneously increasing the convergence rate and stability of DPD systems.
Simulation results and lab experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of using adaptive basis functions on a hardware platform equipped with a solid-state high power amplifier. Keywords used in the research include digital predistortion, power amplifier linearization, and adaptive selection of basis functions.
The paper was authored by researchers at Bell Labs, including Hong Jiang. The publication is accessible via IEEE and represents part of Nokia's ongoing work in telecommunications technology.
