Nokia Bell Labs Publishes Research on Multipath QUIC for 5G Advanced Networks
Nokia Bell Labs has published research detailing Multipath QUIC technology, focusing on its application in optimizing traffic steering, switching, and splitting (ATSSS) for 5G Advanced networks.

Nokia Oyj's research arm, Nokia Bell Labs, has released a publication on Multipath QUIC, a technology designed to enhance 5G Advanced network performance through improved access traffic steering, switching, and splitting (ATSSS).
The ATSSS solution allows mobile devices to utilize multiple wireless connectivity options simultaneously, such as 5G-NR and Wi-Fi. This capability aims to aggregate bandwidth, reduce latency, and increase connection reliability for data flows.
The research specifically addresses enhancements for 5G Advanced, as defined in 3GPP Release 18. It introduces a new steering functionality based on the QUIC protocol's multipath extensions, discussing its motivation, features, and user-plane operation.
The article explores how this Multipath QUIC functionality can be applied to proxy UDP traffic over HTTP, offering potential improvements for mobile connectivity in future network deployments.
