Nokia Enhances Data Center Access with Secure Wavelength Services

Espoo, Finland – Nokia Oyj has announced the deployment of new wavelength services aimed at strengthening data center connectivity. The company's latest offerings focus on providing secure and reliable high-speed data transport, crucial for enterprises managing increasing data volumes and leveraging edge computing.

Data centers are increasingly vital for enterprises, serving not only as storage hubs but also for disaster recovery and cloud services. The proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analytics is driving the need for more efficient and secure network connections. Edge computing, which situates data processing closer to end-users, specifically demands low latency and rapid data transfer.

Nokia's 1830 Photonic Service Demarcation (PSD) platform is central to this initiative. It provides dedicated, point-to-point connectivity with full bandwidth over wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) or optical transport networks (OTN). These services are protocol-independent and deliver ultra-low latency, high availability, and secure transmission, which are essential for applications like data center interconnectivity and high-performance computing.

Security is a key component of Nokia's new services. The 1830 PSD-2 model incorporates AES-256 Galois Counter Mode (GCM) encryption at the OTN layer 1. This encryption ensures data remains protected throughout its journey without impacting bandwidth or performance. The solution facilitates cost-effective and secure access to data center services, thereby improving operational reliability and efficiency for businesses.
