Nokia enhances whole-home Wi-Fi solution for service providers
Nokia Oyj has introduced enhancements to its in-home Wi-Fi solutions, including meshed Wi-Fi gateways and beacons powered by new software. The updates aim to improve network performance and simplify troubleshooting for service providers.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia Oyj announced significant enhancements to its whole-home Wi-Fi solutions designed to boost network performance and simplify management for service providers. The expanded portfolio now includes meshed Wi-Fi gateways and beacons, fortified by new Unium software, aiming to create a more robust and intelligent home network.
As the number of connected devices in homes grows, and interference from appliances strains network capacity, service providers face increasing customer support challenges. Nokia's updated solution addresses this by expanding its device range and enabling software upgrades for existing gateways to support mesh networking. This feature allows devices to connect to the nearest or fastest access point, optimizing coverage and performance throughout the home.
For service providers, Nokia has launched a new Wi-Fi Home Portal. This centralized dashboard provides a holistic view of users' home Wi-Fi networks, enabling faster identification and resolution of issues. The system also incorporates new software and analytics for self-healing and self-optimizing network functions. An accompanying mobile application gives end-users a visual interface to manage their network, identify dead zones, and optimize access point placement.
Nokia states these enhancements will significantly reduce the time and complexity associated with troubleshooting in-home network problems. They also facilitate opportunities for service providers to upsell services like increased broadband capacity. The company plans to showcase these solutions at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona.
