Nokia improves security, efficiency for private wireless networks

Nokia Oyj has launched a new Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution designed to enhance security and operational efficiency for industrial enterprises utilizing private wireless networks. The solution addresses the complexities of managing user credentials and access rights in operational technology (OT) environments.

The company stated that traditional role-based access control (RBAC) models can be inflexible, leading to multiple user accounts and increased security risks. Nokia's approach integrates federated identity management with single sign-on (SSO), allowing network operations staff to use a single set of credentials across both IT and OT systems.

Furthermore, the solution incorporates attribute-based access control (ABAC), providing more granular control over user permissions. This allows enterprises to assign access rights based on user roles and other attributes, offering greater flexibility than RBAC.

Nokia's Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) platform supports these IAM capabilities, integrating with existing systems like Azure AD through the SAML protocol. The company aims to help businesses strengthen their security posture, streamline account management, and gain precise control over network access, thereby supporting digital transformation initiatives.

By adopting this unified IAM approach, enterprises can reduce their attack surface and improve the operational efficiency of their private wireless networks, facilitating Industry 4.0 use cases.
