Nokia launches 3D network visualization using XR technology

Network equipment provider Nokia Oyj has unveiled a new Extended Reality (XR) solution designed to visualize telecommunication networks in 3D. This immersive tool creates a digital twin of network infrastructure, enabling operators to better understand and manage complex environments, particularly in dense urban settings.

The XR Network Visualizer allows operators to monitor network performance, coverage, and quality in real-time. This capability supports the development and monetization of new services, such as guaranteed quality of service for autonomous vehicles like drones and self-driving cars. The technology can also simplify deployments, for instance, by validating the placement of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) equipment.

Nokia's solution integrates both Augmented Reality (AR) for in-location visualization and Virtual Reality (VR) for remote exploration. It was showcased at the DTW25 event as part of a collaborative project that received the Open Innovation Catalyst Award. Key partners in this project included du, Mauritius Telecom, NTT, stc, Türk Telekom, ML Networks, and Netradar.

The technology also enhances transparency and accountability for network-based services. For example, it can verify if a drone performing an inspection followed its designated flight path and schedule. Nokia is developing this XR visualization technology in collaboration with Immersal and Hexagon.
