Nokia launches flexible 50G/25G/10G PON solution
Nokia has introduced a new line card supporting multiple PON technologies, enabling operators to upgrade fiber network speeds on demand. The solution supports up to 50Gbps.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia Oyj has launched a new flexible line card solution for fiber networks, allowing operators to upgrade network speeds as needed. The new 16-port line card supports GPON, 10G, 25G, and 50G PON technologies on every port simultaneously.
The technology is designed to meet increasing network demands driven by artificial intelligence (AI), such as higher bandwidth, lower latency, and enhanced security. The solution enables operators to upgrade their existing fiber networks flexibly, without pre-commitments to capacity or the need for additional hardware due to changing market requirements.
According to Nokia, this new multi-PON solution is the first of its kind and is built on the company's proprietary Quillion chipset and multi-PON optical modules. It provides a flexible path for network evolution, allowing for the deployment of technologies like 10G and 25G PON now, with the addition of 50G PON later as demand increases.
Maryam Chaudry, SVP & GM of Nokia's Fixed Networks business unit, stated that operators can now invest in next-generation PON technology without having to commit to a single path. The solution allows for the deployment of PON technology according to market needs and the mixing of technologies to capture multiple revenue streams.
The company estimates the solution will also offer improvements in network performance, security, and resilience, including up to four times lower upstream latency and quantum-safe encryption. General availability for the solution is planned for 2027.
