Espoo, Finland – Nokia Oyj's research arm, Nokia Bell Labs, has unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) based method to tackle problems with Channel State Information (CSI) in wireless communication. The findings were published on July 9, 2021.

The research addresses inaccuracies in CSI at base stations, which are often caused by feedback and processing delays, as well as compression issues. Nokia's proposed scheme utilizes AI to enhance both the compression of CSI at the mobile terminal and its accurate recovery at the base station.

Simulation results indicate that the proposed method achieves nearly 100% recovery of estimated CSI. Furthermore, it operates with significantly lower overhead compared to existing benchmark schemes.

This development holds potential benefits for wireless communication environments, particularly for ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC) applications where imperfect CSI and high overhead are critical concerns. The research was published as part of an IEEE conference.
