Nokia reports new patent licensing agreements
Nokia has announced significant progress in its patent licensing business in early 2026, securing new agreements with companies in the automotive, consumer electronics, and IoT sectors.

Nokia Oyj has achieved significant advancements in its patent licensing business in early 2026. The company has successfully entered into several new licensing agreements across various sectors, including automotive, consumer electronics, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
In the automotive sector, Nokia has continued its positive development. The company announced the signing of a new bilateral patent license agreement with a Chinese automaker, covering Nokia's 2G to 5G mobile technologies, as well as Wi-Fi technologies for connected vehicles. In total, 12 Chinese automakers now license Nokia's technologies, either bilaterally or through the Avanci pool. The company also successfully settled its dispute with Geely.
Within the consumer electronics sector, Nokia has entered into a license agreement with TV manufacturer Hisense for the use of Nokia's video technologies. This marks the first licensing agreement between the two companies. Nokia has also concluded deals with other TV and consumer electronics manufacturers and is continuing its legal proceedings against Acer and Asus.
In the Internet of Things (IoT) field, Nokia has opened a new vertical by signing patent license agreements with ADT and two other leading residential security system providers. These agreements cover the technological functionalities of residential security systems. Furthermore, Nokia has entered into agreements with elevator manufacturers, enabling remote monitoring and predictive maintenance for their elevators.
Nokia's success in patent licensing is built upon the company's substantial investment in research and development (R&D), reaching nearly €160 billion since 2000. The extensive patent portfolio covers key technologies, including mobile connectivity and video coding, supporting the functionality of modern devices and services.
