Nokia secures 5G infrastructure contract with Finnish Shared Network

Nokia has been selected as the primary supplier for the Finnish Shared Network (SYV), a joint venture between DNA and Telia. The agreement tasks Nokia with the modernization of existing 2G, 3G, and 4G radio access networks alongside the deployment of new 5G infrastructure.

The project covers more than 50 percent of Finland’s land area. Under the terms of the deal, Nokia will oversee the upgrade of base stations, controllers, and IP transport systems, while also providing managed services such as field maintenance and network monitoring. This effort is aimed at improving service performance and optimizing operational costs for the two parent telecommunications companies.

The three-year deployment is scheduled to begin in early 2021, with completion expected by the end of 2023. SYV CEO Antti Jokinen cited Nokia’s industry expertise and secure solution set as primary drivers for the selection, noting that the partnership is essential for future-proofing their infrastructure.
