Nokia has signed a new bilateral patent license agreement with a leading Chinese automaker covering its 2G to 5G mobile technologies and essential Wi-Fi technologies for connected vehicles.

Espoo – Nokia Oyj announced on January 20, 2026, that it has entered into a new bilateral patent license agreement with a major Chinese automaker. The agreement grants the automaker access to Nokia's patented technologies, including cellular technologies from 2G to 5G and essential Wi-Fi technologies for use in connected vehicles.
This deal represents a significant step in Nokia's automotive licensing efforts in China, bringing the total number of Chinese automakers with similar agreements to five. Nokia views this as an indicator of increased respect for its intellectual property rights among Chinese manufacturers.
Nokia's wireless technologies are fundamental to many in-car services, enhancing safety and the driving experience. These include enabling features such as navigation, emergency calls, over-the-air software updates, and advanced driver-assistance systems.
The company has previously stated its commitment to ensuring a level playing field, emphasizing that companies not adhering to licensing rules should not gain an unfair advantage. Nokia affirmed its readiness to pursue litigation if necessary to protect its technologies and ensure fair competition.
